Full Services - Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
The first step is a free consultation, where we can talk through what you’d like to find out and what information you already have.
This can be done over the phone or face to face, depending on what suits you best.
How do I price my research packages?
My research packages are based on the time spent researching your family history.
This means the work can be guided in a way that suits you—whether you’d like to focus on a particular family line, explore a specific question, or follow an interesting discovery as it develops.
Do I need to choose a package in advance?
We’ll agree on a suitable package during your consultation based on your budget, what you’d like to explore and how in-depth you’d like the research to be.
I’ll always explain clearly what’s included, so you know exactly what to expect.
Do I need to sign a contract?
No you do not need to sign anything but before starting a full research package, I provide a simple agreement that outlines how the research works, including scope, payment, and what you can expect from the process.
This is simply to ensure everything is clear and that we both understand the nature of the work before it begins.
How does payment work?
Once a package has been agreed, I ask for a 10% deposit to begin the research.
The remaining balance is payable on completion via online bank transfer or Paypal.
What will I receive at the end of the research?
You’ll receive a detailed summary of the research, along with any relevant records and findings as well as a family chart.
I’ll present everything in a clear and easy-to-understand way, helping you build a fuller picture of your family history.
Can the research be tailored to what I’m interested in?
Yes—your research is guided by what matters most to you.
Whether you’re interested in a particular person, family line, or period of time, the work can be shaped around your interests.
What if we discover something unexpected?
Family history research often uncovers surprising details.
If something interesting emerges, we can follow that line of enquiry further within the agreed research time.
What happens if I want to continue the research?
If you’d like to explore further once your package is complete, you’re very welcome to book additional research time.
There’s no obligation—everything can be taken at your own pace.
Do I need to have a lot of information to begin?
Not at all. Even a small amount of information—such as a name or location—can be enough to get started.
We’ll go through everything during your consultation.
Is family history research always successful?
Not every search leads to clear answers, as records can sometimes be incomplete or difficult to trace.
However, I’ll always share what I’ve found and explain any possible next steps or further avenues to explore.
